Press Release

Subject: Invitation to Heritage Minister to visit Boscombe Pier
Date: 3 January 2005
By: Tobias Ellwood
Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, Bournemouth East
Reference: BECA/TE/P/01.05-A

Following the announcement by Heritage Minister Lord McIntosh that the entrance to Boscombe pier is to be listed, thus scuppering the proposed development plans for the area, Tobias Ellwood, Prospective MP for Bournemouth East, has written to Lord McIntosh inviting him to Boscombe.

Tobias does not believe that the Heritage Minister who granted the grade II listing status, would come to the same conclusion if he saw the state of the pier himself.

Should Lord McIntosh take up the invitation to visit the seafront Tobias has offered to organise a public meeting so the Minister can hear some of local views about his decision. Lord McIntosh's press release (dated 8 December 2004) states the decision was taken 'after wide consultation' - a view not shared by many people in Boscombe.
