Reisdents will remember the flagship Lib Dem promises to 'Save
the Winter Gardens'
during the last local elections. The building is has now been bulldozed
and a new complex (a quarter of the size) will cost £30million
to build.
This new building will not be able to make enough money to support
itself but will need subsidising to the tune of £300,000 paid
by the Bournemouth tax payer.
Some Lib Dem
candidates said they would resign if the original building was not
saved - even promising to stand in front of the bulldozers before
they would allow the original Winter Gardens to be knocked down.
Little did we know how hollow all these promises were.
Shame on the
Lib Dems for making such promises simply to win the last local election.
Politics is
about decision making - some decisions may be unpopular. But to
say one thing during an election and then do another simply brings
into question all the promises they make.
May 3rd Elections
Following the Conservatives' success in the May 3rd local elections,
the Winter Gardens fiasco will be halted.
