Over-development March
Sunday 14th September
11.30am Town Square

Please come and show your support for
'Beautiful Dorset'

The fight against overdevelopment reaches its final chapter this autumn with the Government likely to confirm new housing numbers in October.

If approved, this will mean Bournemouth will be forced to build 16,100 new houses (including 1,500 in our greenbelt) without any extra funding for improvements to our infrastructure. The Housing target for the county is 48,000 new homes.

We are therefore teaming up with residents' groups across the county for a rally to send one final message to Westminster that these housing targets are far to high.

What can you do?

Key reasons why we are challenging these housing numbers:

1 It will irreversibly change the whole character of our area destroying our quality of life.
2 Building on the greenbelt will damage the environment and protection of wildlife habitats.
The greenbelt forms part of Bournemouth's flood plain for the River Stour.
3 No provision is made for affordable family homes instead of flats.
4 No additional funding is provided for improving our infrastructure to provide roads, medical facilities, schools or sewers which will need to be improved to meet the needs of the larger population.
5 Traffic is already nearing gridlock on key roads. The influx of 48,000 more homes in Dorset will be devastating to our road network. This will impact on the tourism industry as visitors turn away from this area.
6 There is no proof that Dorset needs this many new homes.
7
Why is the South West expected to build 16,000 new homes per year compared with the North West which is obliged to build just 8,500?.

Without funding for infra-structure improvements an increasing the town's population over 30,000 will place huge strains one our intructure and public services.
