Greenbelt under threat

Troika Developers propose to build on Bournemouth's last corner of Greenbelt.

Too much development in Bournemouth?
With seemingly no control over planning, our town is changing before our very eyes. The pace of development is outstripping investment in infrastructure. It is hard to think, which is worse, driving, or trying to park.

And now 'Troika' has submitted a major planning application to build another development, this time on Riverside Avenue, north of the hospital. It would be accessed from a new junction off Wessex Way situated at the location of the present footbridge.

The developer is also offering to build a 'Park and Ride' scheme along similar lines to a previous application which got thrown out thanks to massive local concern and its negative impact on the open and rural character of the area.

Thanks to a efforts of Cllr Nick King, residents were kept informed of developments and were able to apply enough pressure on councillors who sit on the Planning Committee to defeat the application. However it is expected to go to appeal. One of the reasons why some lib Dems voted in favour of the application was the costs to the Council if an appeal was lost. This should not be a planning consideration.

Overdevelopment
There must come a point when we say enough is enough. We must start solving our traffic problems and not adding to them. And once greenbelt is lost, it is lost for ever.
