Key issues for Bournemouth

A glance at some of the challenge that need to be addressed and some of the opportunities that need to be explored in order for Bournemouth to remain an vibrant, attractive, safe and popular seaside family resort.

  Damaging Bournemouth
1
Lib Dems building over 1,000 more homes a year in Bournemouth
Well beyond any target imposed by the SW Regional Assembly
2
Sale of the Yellow Buses and sea front car parks
We are a seaside resort and should expect visitors to come by car
3
Closure of amenities such as the BIC pool and care centres
Bournemouth is more than just houses and flats - it is a community and needs a variety of amenities
4
Rising levels of graffiti and cuts in CCTV budget
5
Closure of Boscombe pier and building flats on the promenade
6
Over-development of Castle Lane

  Improving Bournemouth
1
Replace the IMAX
2

Stop over-development
• Give local residents more say in planning decisions
• Halt the Mallard Road development (old bus depot)

• Oppose Troika's proposals for commercial development on Riverside Ave
• Fight to ensure residents are fully consulted on mobile phone masts

3
Parking and Infrastructure
• If local consultation allows, let JP Morgan and the hospital
. increase the size of their car parks
• Complete the Wessex Way onto the A3049, as originally
.
planned, relieving the congestion on Castle Lane
4
Investment in youth activities
• Provide more facilities for older children to expend their
. energy and keep them active, and so curb street-corner activities
5
A greener Bournemouth
• Improve doorstep recycling and green waste handling
• Invest in a town wide bike network to curb reliance on cars
6
Improving Boscombe seafront
• Upgrade Boscombe pier
• Bring back pleasure trips
• Turn the CCTV back on
7

Regaining control of our Town Centre
• Limit on the number of night clubs in town centre
• Charge a levy on pubs and clubs to pay for the extra policing the area needs, freeing police to cover the rest of the town
• Increase parking and reduce charges to encourage shoppers

• Say no to the Casino
