Boscombe ignored

Lib Dems sell of Honeycombe Chine car park for £8m

169 flats to be built will spill out 17ft onto Promenade
Locals given 48 hours to consider plans for pier redevelopment
How would you spend
£8m
to improve Boscombe?

Last year, against public opinion, the Lib Dem Council agreed to sell Honeycombe Chine car park for £8m so 168 flats could be built.

Lib Dems rushed through their proposals to redevelop the pier area, giving residents only 48 hours to comment before it was put to the vote in the Town Hall.

As the front of the pier is now listed, the Lib Dems are ploughing huge sums of money into the building of an artificial surf reef which would be placed next to the pier. Yet the tidal experts, HR Wallingford, do not endorse this location on the grounds that the exaggerated wave will erode the coastline running up huge costs in sea defences.

It is irresponsible of the Lib Dems to recommend this project in a place that the experts say is unsuitable.

Development of the pier
The Lib Dem's new plans include removing the end of the pier, killing any hope of pleasure boats and tourists, from Bournemouth's main pier, Poole and the Isle of White stopping off.

They are also focusing on the overstrand buildings, which at first glance seems logical, these buildings are the obvious choice for any private investor to consider, freeing the Council to spend funds on other aspects of area, namely the pier.

The new flat complex (shown below) will eat into the promenade by 17 feet.
